I'm on Santa Cluster. Is it a pun or just another South Park character? (I like SP but don't know all of it that well)

Yes. In the very first episode - which drew the attention to Parker and Stone - Santa fights with JC for the meaning of Kratsmach. In the last episode todate (first aired Dec. 11) they, sort of, make up. And JC dies to save Santa from Iraq ("He died to save me", - says Santa).
