Finally the right choice of words

Well, the choice of words belongs to whoever penned the original AP article that was picked up by everyone... but do we know what that was based on?

I do not think it is AP - it is either TIME or even some Israeli source. That was not the point. When I first saw it in TIME I was incensed by their choice of words. You can request something from other sovereign country, or demand, or threaten, or even give ultimatums. You order a subordinate. And then I realized that as far as a lot of people are concerned the choice of words was precise - and that's how the relationship between America and Israel is perceived. And that incensed me even more.

(The Israeli ambassador in America was summoned by the State department and told that the US wants Israel to halt the construction of the hotel. That was all over Israeli news last week). By the way, the ambassador is one Michael Oren. I highly recommend his Six Days of War and would very much like to lay my hands on his latest - Power, Faith, and Fantasy.

Just saw your reply - look, by all common sense arguments Israel is a client state of the US. We may or may not like it (and both you and I don't) but that does not change this simple fact. Or do you disagree?

Although true, the complete picture is not that simple. Israel needs external support for a mere fact of lacking many essential resources internally. However, if America decides to abandon it - there immediately be candidates to fill the vacuum - Russia, China, even some members of the EU.
